The materials you need to securely install your TV bracket depends on the type of wall you have. Find out below which mounting materials are suitable for different wall types.

To help you mount your TV safely, Vogel’s provides:

  • Screws suitable for virtually any TV
  • Plugs and screws for mounting on brick or solid walls, as well as screws for mounting your TV to the wall mount itself
  • The convenient Vogel's app to localize the first drill hole, and a user manual
  • Handy installation videos on YouTube

Step 3: Determine the type of wall you want to mount your TV on

In principle, you can mount a Vogel's TV bracket and your television on almost any wall. But each type of wall has certain properties that need to be taken into account.

In principle, you can mount a Vogel's TV bracket and your television on almost any wall. However, each wall type has specific properties that need to be considered.

This means it is important to know which materials were used to build the wall.

Tip: Walls are often finished with stucco, wallpaper, or a layer of paint. To find out which type of wall you have, drill a few small holes close together in a spot that’s out of sight, for example, behind a cupboard or painting. Alternatively, remove a skirting board. The holes will quickly show you what kind of wall you have without causing too much visible damage.

Want to quickly move on with the installation?
Take a look at these handy tips:

Drilling tips for brick or concrete walls

Drilling tips:

  • A hammer drill or impact drill is ideal.
  • Pre-drill the holes with a smaller drill bit than required.
  •  Clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Then drill again with the correct drill bit size.
  • Clean the holes once more with a vacuum cleaner to optimize the grip of the plug.

Mounting tips:

Wall type 2: Mounting on a hollow stud wall

Can I mount my TV on a hollow wall plasterboard with studs?

This is a question we receive often. Mounting a TV on the plasterboard itself is not possible. However, you can safely mount your TV on a hollow wall made of plasterboard with wooden studs.

A wall with metal studs must always be reinforced before mounting a TV wall mount.

We explain the process step-by-step in this special instructional page:

Wall type 3: How to mount on a dry interior plasterboard wall

Has the plasterboard been attached to the wall using plasterboard adhesive?  If so, you are probably dealing with a dot & dab wall. In this case, make sure that the wall behind the plasterboard is a solid brick wall. How can you check that? Review the tips under 1, or ask a professional constructor or specialist for further assistance.

When facing plasterboard, you will also need to drill extra deep (even into the solid brick wall) and use the appropriate plugs and screws. Please note that Vogel’s does not supply these specific materials.

You should also take into account whether your wall has a thick layer of plaster, as this is not the same as a brick wall. If you are not certain, always consult a specialist or professional installer.

Wall type 4: Mounting on aerated concrete/gas concrete

Would you like to mount your TV on a wall made of cellular concrete, aerated concrete or Ytong blocks? Then you should take the following into account:

  • Minimum wall thickness 100 mm.
  • Minimum quality of the aerated concrete: G4/600 (compressive strength 4 N/mm2, volume weight < 600 kg/m3).
  • We recommend our Vogel’s COMFORT or ELITE Series TV wall mounts.
  • For a full-motion wall bracket, consider a maximum weight of 35 kg for your TV screen.
  • Vogel's recommends using Fischer Duopower 10 x 80 mm plugs with 8 x 90 screws. (not included with Vogel’s products)
  • Do not set your drill in the hammer or impact drill position.
  • Pre-drill the holes with a smaller drill bit than required for better results
  • Clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner for improved plug grip
  • Then drill again with the correct drill bit size, and don’t forget to vacuum the holes once more

Wall type 5: Mounting on perforated or hollow bricks

Will your TV be mounted on a perforated or hollow brick wall? In this case, the wall will require extra reinforcement. To ensure a safe installation, the load must be distributed across a larger part of the wall.

TVA 6950 stud adapter

This adapter provides extra reinforcement for wooden hollow walls and is the perfect fit for our best-selling COMFORT wall mounts. Alternatively, you can reinforce the wall by attaching a thick wooden plate, for example.

Further installation tips:

  • Vogel's recommends Fischer Duopower 10 x 80 mm plugs with 8 x 90 screws in combination with the Vogel's adapter TVA 6950 or a reinforcing plate.
  • Do not set your drill in the hammer or impact drill position.
  • For accuracy: Pre-drill the holes with a smaller drill bit than required, then clean the holes with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Drill again with the correct drill bit size, and vacuum the holes once more for optimal plug grip.

Wall type 6: How to mount your TV on a hollow concrete block or masonry block wall

Before installing your Vogel's TV wall mount and your TV on hollow concrete blocks, brickwork blocks or ceramic blocks keep the following in mind:

  • You can use the mounting materials provided by Vogel's. However, for this wall type we recommend using Fischer Duopower 10 x 80 mm plugs with 8 x 90 screws.
  • Do not set your drill in the hammer or impact drill position.
  • For greater accuracy, pre-drill the holes with a smaller drill bit than required.
  • Clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner for better plug grip.
  • Then drill again with the correct drill bit size, and vacuum the holes once more.

Is your wall type not listed here? You can always contact a local DIY store for advice. Take pictures and make a note of the total weight of your TV and wall mount.
