What is VESA? How to find the right TV mount or stand

Published on: 6 August 2025 | Author: Ingrid Rutjens, Content Lead

All of Vogel's TV wall brackets and TV stands are compatible with the VESA Interface Standard. This page explains how to measure your TV's VESA size yourself.

These days there are a lot of different VESA sizes, some of them are more common in the UK than others. Especially with the popularity of bigger screens, the VESA pattern also increased in size.

What does VESA actually mean?

The VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) interface is the distance between the four mounting holes on the back of a TV (shown as 'horizontal distance x vertical distance').
This interface is commonly used to mount screens on wall mounts or stands, not only in the UK but also internationally.

Generally speaking:

  • TVs up to 32 inches usually have a VESA of 100x100 mm;
  • VESA 200x200 is common for TVs up to 55 inches;
  • TVs larger than 55 inches usually have a VESA of 300x300 or even 400x400;
  • TVs larger than 65 inches usually have a VESA of 600x400.

Why is it important to choose the right VESA-compliant bracket or stand for your TV?

In short: VESA compliance ensures compatibility, safety, and reliability when mounting your TV. The benefits of the VESA standard are:

  • It offers a universal fit: VESA compliance ensures that the mounting holes on your TV (the four threaded holes on the back) will line up perfectly with the stand or wall bracket. Without this, you risk buying a bracket that simply won’t fit your TV.
  • VESA-compliant TV wall mounts or floor stands are designed to hold the weight and size of TVs that match its standard. Using a non-compliant mount can mean poor alignment, uneven stress on the screws, or even the TV falling.
  • Because VESA standards are universal, most brackets and TVs “just work” together if they share the same VESA specification (e.g., 200x200mm, 400x400mm, etc.). This avoids the hassle of drilling custom holes or using unsafe adapters.
  • If you upgrade your TV later, as long as your new set has the same (or smaller) VESA pattern, you can usually keep the same TV bracket or stand.

What is the VESA TV wall mount size for your TV?

Measuring the distance between the (four) horizontal and vertical holes on the back of your TV is the fastest and easiest way to find the VESA size for your TV.

The first distance stated for a VESA interface is always the horizontal distance. The second distance is the vertical distance between the holes.

These two measurements produce the following format: HORIZONTAL x VERTICAL = VESA interface pattern.
